Easy Thanksgiving Appetizer Ideas
Simple Thanksgiving appetizers with seasonal flavors and easy prep. Add a couple of these finger foods, dips, and crunchy nibbles to your pre-meal snacking menu to hold guests over before dinner.

When we host big meals for the holidays it’s always scheduled for later in the day, which means around 2pm at the earliest or a true “dinner” at around 6pm.
To tie us over for the day we usually have a late breakfast, and then set out a spread of tasty appetizers and cocktails. This way we stay satisfied through the afternoon but don’t get full before the main meal.
I’m sharing some of my favorite appetizers to graze on and they’re chosen because they meet at least one or more special criteria: easy to make, can make ahead, not too filling, and seasonal flavors. Check out the list that includes finger food, dips, and nibbles.
Helpful Tips
- Set up the snacks on a side table so it’s not in the way of any meal prep that takes place in the kitchen. If you need to, bring in a folding table or card table for the extra surface.
- A high counter top is a great place to set up. This way you can still cook in the kitchen without having the work surfaces occupied, and you can conveniently grab a nibble yourself as you’re working.
- The food should consist of easy-to-serve things like fruits, cheese, nuts, olives, and dip. These can stay out for a few hours or can be replenished over time.
Thanksgiving Appetizers
I’ve taken into consideration the fact that you’re already doing so much food prep, you want simple solutions for the appetizers. Most of these have a make-ahead component whether it’s prepping the day before or freezing weeks in advance.
Finger Foods
Bite-size and single-serving options.

Deviled Eggs
This is a classic appetizer that most everyone loves. Deviled eggs with bacon can be prepped the day before, plus you can buy hard boiled eggs at the store to make things even easier.

Cheese Bites
You can’t beat this budget-friendly option that has just 2 ingredients. Cheese hors d’oeuvres are a sweet and savory combo that can be prepped ahead and then assembled Thanksgiving day.

Apple Bites
Another appetizer that has just 3 ingredients is apple, cheese, and turkey bites. These take a little bit of prep on the day of, but the flavors are perfect for the fall holiday.

Fruit and Cheese Skewers
These ham, cheese and fruit kabobs are tasty and look so pretty on skewers. Make some without the ham for your vegetarian guests.

Superb Sausage Balls
Easy sausage balls are better than the original recipe due to a few additional ingredients. The beauty of these is that you can make them early and freeze for a month.

Baked Brie Bites
One of the easiest and most delicious hors d’oeuvres are these baked brie bites in filo shells. They’re sweet and salty and have seasonal flavors.

Goat Cheese Crostini
These goat cheese crostini are topped with homemade apple chutney, which you can make the day before. Another fall flavor profile.
Crunchy Snacks
Crunchy, snackable, and delicious. You may want to provide small paper containers for guests to fill.

Savory Snack Mix
You always need something crunchy and snackable, and this savory Chex mix is just the thing. Make a few days ahead and store in an airtight container.

Seasoned Pecans
Seasoned pecans are a very traditional snack in the south. I’ve been serving sweet and spicy pecans for 2 decades and they’re always a hit. Savory pecans are also fantastic; both can be made a few days ahead.

Cheese Coins
Crispy homemade cheddar cheese coins can be made ahead and frozen. They’re so flavorful and satisfying.
Dips and Spreads
Creamy dips, cheesy spreads, and everything in between.

Cheese Ball
Set out a cheese ball with bacon and pecans or a cheese ball with Ranch seasoning. A classic appetizer that’s easy to make ahead. You can even freeze it!

Spinach Dip
Make cold spinach dip a day ahead. Serve it in a hollowed out fresh pepper for cute presentation.

Tomato Feta Spread
You can prepare tomatoes and feta cheese dip in just minutes. It’s a bit less traditional for Thanksgiving, but has so much flavor.

Hummus
Classic hummus dip is perfect for your guests with dietary restrictions. Make it a day or two ahead and serve with vegetables and crackers or pita.

Chicken Dip
This unique chicken and artichoke spread is so delicious and you can make it ahead and freeze! Let it thaw overnight and serve with crackers.

Fall-Themed Cheese Board
Finally, put together a simple fall-themed cheese board with some unique options like pumpkin butter, corn nuts, roasted pumpkin seeds, and sliced pears.
You can also incorporate some options above like the savory pecans and cheese bites.
