Easy Cheese Hors d’oeuvres (2 Ingredients)
These easy cheese hors d’oeuvres are hands down the simplest appetizer you can make. There are only 2 ingredients but they pack a lot of flavor! Cheddar cheese and pineapple bites are perfect for cocktail parties, happy hour, brunch, or Hawaiian themed parties.
Pineapple Cheese Bites
These cheese bites are a throwback to my childhood, and up until a few years ago I had never seen anyone else prepare it. My dad used to make them when they entertained friends back in the 70’s, and I always loved it.
This is less of a recipe and more of an easy assembly onto a toothpick or party pick. It takes minimal time, effort, and ingredients.
Why You’ll Love It
Cheddar cheese is front and center as it’s skewered with pineapple chunks. The combination is unexpected but so delicious. The balance of sweet and savory is unbeatable, and refreshing.
- It’s a classic hors d’oeuvres that everyone loves and can be served at room temperature.
- Serve them for a wine & cheese party or for girls night appetizers.
- Add them to a charcuterie board.
- It’s a cold appetizer you can make a couple of hours ahead for easy entertaining.
- They’re a must for tropical theme parties such as a luau or Havana theme.
Ingredients
- Cheddar Cheese. Buy a block and cut it into cubes yourself for the best flavor. I prefer sharp or extra-sharp, and it’s fabulous with white cheddar too.
- Canned Pineapple Chunks. Make sure you buy the chunks and not the tidbits, and you’ll need to drain and pat them dry with a paper towel. You could also buy the pineapple rings and cut them into the size you need.
I really don’t recommend cutting your own pineapple for this. It’s just more work than necessary.
How to Make It
Assemble the two ingredients with cheese on the bottom and pineapple on top, and insert a toothpick to secure. Serve at room temperature.
Make Ahead
Prepare these a couple of hours ahead, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. I don’t recommend making them a day ahead since the moisture from the fruit will drain into the cheese over time.

You foodie
I’ve never tried the Italian Style Canapes with goat cheese…I bet they are amazing! I have a friend that lives in Italy and I got a recipe for something like that but instead of the goat cheese you put a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese, a scoop of pesto and a sliced roma tomato on a sliced baguette. I can’t wait to try it with the goat cheese this time! Thanks for sharing your recipes!
Thanks for the sweet comment, Kristy. Hope you enjoy!
