Delicious Spiced Rum Sangria for Parties

Spiced rum sangria is the perfect pitcher drink for a casual party. This recipe starts with Lambrusco wine and gets a flavor boost from spiced rum, Triple Sec, and fresh fruit. Serve it for Super Bowl or game day parties, Mexican themed parties, and outdoor celebrations.

Sangria is superb for entertaining because it can serve a crowd, large or small, and you MUST make it ahead of time so the flavors have time to blend, and the fruit has time to soak up the flavors. That makes it perfect for easy hosting!

Why You’ll Love It

  • Make-ahead. Making a pitcher of sangria up to a day ahead means the host can relax, with one less thing to do on party day.
  • Easy batch drink. It’s great for groups of all sizes because you can effortlessly double or triple the recipe for a larger crowd.
  • Deliciously flavorful! The spiced rum and Lambrusco wine add depth and complexity to an otherwise traditional drink. Serve it for an appetizers & sangria party in the summer, or add it to your list of fall cocktails. Whatever the occasion, you can serve this year round

PARTY TIP: Need more glasses for your gathering? Use 8-ounce wide-mouth canning jars to drink from. They’re inexpensive, sturdy, and you can use them indoors or out.

Ingredient Notes

You’ll use classic ingredients such as orange liqueur and cut fruit, as well as these:

  • Red wine. My recipe uses Lambrusco which is a semi-sweet wine with a little fizz. It’s not as bubbly as champagne, but the sparkling quality makes it refreshing and great for sangria.
  • Spice rum. I love Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and we typically have it at Christmastime. It is a dark rum with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, caramel and nutmeg, which takes this sangria to the next level.
  • Orange juice. Make sure you use pulp free.
  • Ginger Ale. This is optional but I love to add more bubbles to sangria when I can, just before serving. Ginger Ale adds more sweetness and ginger flavor. Sparkling mineral water is a good substitute if you don’t want the extra sweetness.

How To Make It

  1. Add fresh sliced fruit like apples, oranges, and lemons to a large pitcher.
  2. Pour in all the liquids EXCEPT the ginger ale or sparkling water. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours, and at least 2 hours.
  3. Add ginger ale or sparkling water to the pitcher just before serving.

PARTY TIP: Sangria is typically served from a pitcher, but you can also use a punch bowl with ladle, or drink dispenser. If you make a double batch, keep half in the fridge until time to refill the container.

It’s an all-purpose pitcher drink that complements almost any occasion from happy hour to casual dinner with friends.
