This restaurant-inspired pizza is layered with a mix of sweet & salty ingredients that complement every bite.

Last summer we vacationed at the Homestead Resort and this honey drizzled ham & arugula flatbread pizza was on the menu at one of the on site restaurants. I had it for lunch and loved it so much I had to re-create it at home.

This flatbread pizza is unlike most others because the “secret” ingredient is honey lightly drizzled over the top. It’s the perfect balance of salty and sweet for a main course or appetizer!

Every ingredient used is an important element to the dish. The flatbread is thin and crunchy; white cheddar cheese adds the proper sharp-salty layer; and the arugula added at the end gives it freshness.

There’s slight sweetness from the ham, caramelized onions, and honey, and every bite of this pizza is pure bliss. If you like non-traditional pizza flavors, this one is a MUST-TRY.

This flatbread pizza is perfect for a main course or served as appetizer bites.

GREAT PIZZA PARTY IDEAS TO TRY:

Honey Drizzled Ham & Arugula Flatbread Pizza

  • Prepared flatbread pizza crust
  • deli sliced honey ham
  • shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • honey
  • fresh arugula

To caramelize the onions, cut into thin strips and separate the pieces.

Add about 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil to a saute pan and heat over medium-low heat. Add onions and cook until tender, stirring often.

The onions will begin to brown and stick to the pan. Add a small amount of balsamic vinegar {about 1 – 1 1/2 Tablespoons} to the pan and begin de-glazing it {stirring and scraping up the bits that have stuck to the pan}.

Continue cooking and stirring over low heat until vinegar has evaporated and onions are soft and darkened. Remove from pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare pizza by sprinkling the crust with the cheese. Layer on the ham and onion. Cook according to crust directions or until cheese is melted and crust is lightly brown around the edges.

Remove pizza and top it with arugula. Lightly drizzle the honey over the top. Slice and serve.

Enjoy!

  1. This looks like a great combo of flavors! What brand of prepared crust did you use since it’s so thin?

    1. Honestly, I can’t remember what brand I picked up at the time! It could have been something regional(?) You can also use any prepared thin pizza crust. The flavors on top are really what make this special. You definitely don’t want a thick or doughy crust though.
