Refreshing Peach Mint Julep

An easy peach mint julep recipe that’s delicious and refreshing for summer parties or Kentucky Derby viewing. You’ll love the addition of peach flavor and a bit of fizz that’s added to the traditional bourbon drink.

Add a twist to the classic mint julep by adding this peach and fizzy infusion. When we tested these, my husband and I thought they’re even better than the original!

This cocktail is a great recipe to add to a Southern style dinner party or as a signature drink for a Kentucky Derby party at home.

Use Mint Simple Syrup

I know there are folks who make mint juleps by simply muddling together fresh mint and sugar. However, I’ve found that making the mint simple syrup is a more consistent way to add the flavor. It’s also easier in the long run to pour in the syrup than muddle from scratch for each drink.

With this recipe we still muddle together the peaches along with the syrup. But it’s mainly to just break down the fruit and release the juices. I also use mint simple syrup in the classic mint julep.

Ingredient Tips

Bourbon. Since juleps are a boozy drink, use a good quality Kentucky bourbon for best flavor. Brands like Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark, Knob Creek, and Eagle Rare are all good choices.

Peaches. Use fresh or frozen peach slices. If you buy frozen, let them thaw to their original soft form. If you’re cutting your own, make the slices about ¼-inch thick or a little less so they’re easy to smash with the muddler.

PARTY TIP

Set up a DIY julep bar, and let your guests play their own bartender.

  • House your ingredients on a silver tray along with a jigger, a muddler, cocktail napkins, and drink stirrers.
  • Keep the simple syrup in a small pitcher or bottle with pouring spout.
  • Place pre-sliced peaches in a pretty bowl.
  • Place bourbon in a decanter or its original bottle.
  • Add a sign with instructions for making the drink.

If you like peaches then you’ll LOVE these sparkling peach margaritas too! In fact you can create an entire peach theme garden party based on this single theme of “peaches.”

But if bourbon is your thing you’ll want to try this bourbon Aperol cocktail or a bourbon iced tea. This bourbon and lemonade is also very refreshing.

For cooler weather and holidays go for a bourbon and cranberry cocktail.
