Make-Your-Own Mini Dump Cakes

make your own mini dump cakes party

Mini dump cakes taste fantastic and can be made to suit individual preferences. This party bar idea is interactive and entertains guests while pleasing their sweet tooth in the end.

Today’s idea is more than just a recipe. It’s also a great activity for older children and adults alike. Once again I’ve partnered with Reddi-wip to bring you party ideas and get you Party Reddi, and this idea is fantastic {if I do say so my self}.

We’re making mini dump cakes, but to add in my own “entertaining” twist we’re setting up a “make your own” bar so everyone can choose their favorite flavors. This would be a great activity for a baking themed party, a birthday party, or even a holiday party {it’s nearly that time again}. It’s also a good way to introduce kids to baking without getting too involved with multiple steps or techniques.

Make-Your-Own Mini Dump Cakes Station

  • To make this an easy interactive bar I covered the table in kraft paper and labelled each ingredient in order. This makes clean up a breeze and I always think kraft paper adds a cool casual base.
  • Place all ingredients in a bowl with their own spoon. All the ingredients are bought pre-packaged so prep work and time is a breeze.
  • Cut butter into thin slices ahead of time, and keep it chilled in the refrigerator until ready to use. Otherwise it gets soft and hard to handle.
  • The steps to making the dump cakes is written directly on the kraft paper, making the process self explanatory.
  • Provide mini baking dishes for each guest. I love these oval bakers by Libbey, and they come in a set of six.
  • For variety I included 4 fruit flavors {blueberry, cherry, apple, peach}. Use yellow cake mix for the top ‘crust,’ and sliced almonds and chopped pecan for the crunchy topping.
  • Of course this dump cake isn’t complete without Reddi-wip topping and/or ice cream to serve it with.

Build your own mini dump cakes with this fun party idea and instructions.

This recipe doesn’t have specific measurements. It’s all about the layers and balance, and will depend on how large your mini bakers are. Serve them while they’re still warm, and top with whipped cream topping {and ice cream if you like} for a delicious dessert treat!

Mini Dump Cakes

  • Canned fruit pie filling
  • 1 package Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1-2 sticks butter, chilled
  • Chopped pecans, walnuts, or macadamias; and/or sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Fill bottom of mini baking dish with fruit pie filling. Cover with a layer of cake mix – about 1/4 inch thick. Top with sliced pats of butter, covering the cake mix as much as possible, but no need to layer on the butter here. Sprinkle with nuts. Place mini cakes on a cookie sheet and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into cake layer comes out clean. Let cool slightly and serve with whipped cream on top.
