Travel Themed Party

As someone who loves to travel, I love a travel theme party! It works so well for a birthday, a bridal shower, a farewell party, or even graduation. You can inject some fun and easy-to-find decorations and details for this theme, as seen in this wedding shot by Stephanie Williams Photography.

The “flying” plane with a banner is a fantastic way to highlight the dessert table. Of course suitcases are used to add height as well as placed open to hold an array of sweets. You can find those tin model airplanes at places like Ross, HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby, or online. You’ll also find vintage-style mini suitcases online, or the real deal in thrift stores.

Accent the tables with signs that say, “I left my heart in (city),” and use maps to highlight favorite destinations.

Have guests write notes for the occasion on the back of post cards and place them inside a small suitcase, to be read later by the guest of honor.

Hang white and blue poms or lanterns to mimic the sky and clouds. Wrap party favors to look like little postal packages.

I’m sure you can think of other great options for the traveling theme, but this gorgeous celebration is a great place to start!

  1. This is absolutely fabulous. It’s so sophisticated!

One of the most successful parties I ever hosted had a travel theme. It was a “Christmas in New York” theme.

The party food consisted of dishes that I recreated from famous restaurants. The decor was inspired by the famous restaurants as well. Most recipes were found in a New York Times Cookbook. I even contacted some of my favorite restaurants (all were so obliging!). I was surprised to receive postcards, recipes and other restaurant goodies simply for calling.

I especially love the tickets you displayed on the map. I used similar tickets as wine glass charm. Guests could write their name on the ticket and tie it around the stem of their beverage, making keeping up with a drink easy.

Cheers to a love party theme.
