What’s your Halloween pre-trick -or-treat supper? Our tradition has always been to order pizza early, before going out at around 6:00 or 6:30. However, I just found a new alternative that’s delicious and imparts that playful touch that Halloween is known for – SunChips Walking Tacos, aka Tacos in a Bag.

We gave these a try this weekend and the verdict is in…they are a winner with both kids and adults, and I’m sharing the recipe below.

My daughter “modeled” her Halloween costume as she enjoyed her tacos in a bag, while my son opted for his every day look. We grown ups enjoyed ours in a “nachos” style basket.

The original recipe calls for chicken, but we love using traditional ground beef. I’ve included both version for you to try, here:

SunChips Walking Tacos, aka Tacos in a Bag

  • 12 – single serving bags of SunChips garden salsa flavor
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups cooked, diced or shredded chicken {use rotisserie for convenience}
  • 1 packet {1.25 oz} taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 – 15 oz jar salsa

Combine chicken, water, seasoning, and salsa in medium sauce pan over medium heat. Simmer 8-10 minutes.

Open bag of SunChips, add 1/2 cup chicken mixture, and sprinkle with cheese.

For Beef Tacos:

Cook and brown 1 pound of ground beef. Drain and rinse beef and return to skillet.

Add 1 packet {1.25 oz} Fajita seasoning, and 1/2 cup water to meat. Cook over medium high heat until bubbly. Reduce heat and let thicken.

Serve as above, topping with cheese and salsa.

  1. Yummy recipe – I have tried it with Fritos but never with Sun Chips. Since they are a little lower in calories I am eager to try this. Plus it helps that I am starving while I read this……thanks for the post – hope I win 🙂
