St. Patrick’s Day “Lucky Number” Game

This St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Number Game is a fun addition to the day’s festivities. It’s easy to assemble and can be used with children or adults. Find out if the luck of the Irish is on your side when you pick a shamrock from the bag!

I love quick and easy activities for a party, and this St. Patrick’s day “Lucky Number” game is especially suited for the occasion. Maybe you’re having an after-school bash with the kids, or you’re hosting an Irish celebration for adults – either way you can incorporate this simple activity.

I like to use this as a fun way to add door prizes to the party, and you can actually design it to suit any theme. The fun thing about St. Patrick’s day is that it already plays on the theme of “the LUCK of the Irish!”

Irish Lucky Numbers Game

All you need to do is put together a few simple items and have guests “try their luck.”

The concept of the activity is to fill a small bag with mini shamrocks from the craft store, and let each guest pull one out at random. If they pull a lucky number then they win a prize.

  • In this example I’ve used ‘lucky 7’ as the number and I would suggest you have a few winning numbers inside to make it more fun. What if the first person drew the only winning number from the bag? That wouldn’t be fun for the rest of the group!
  • To make it even more suspenseful, you could have everyone pull their shamrock from the bag but not look at it until everybody has one. Then they all look at the same time to see who the winner is.
  • Winning prizes could be a bag of gold-wrapped chocolate coins for the kids, or a pack of Guinness beer for adults. You could also do a bottle of Irish Whiskey or Bailey’s Irish Cream.
  • For the grab bag, use a muslin drawstring bag and applied an iron-on stencil with a cute saying: “Do you have the luck of the Irish?” The felt shamrocks are easy to write on with a sharpie marker, too.

What do you think of this simple St. Patrick’s day party activity? You know, you could apply this idea to baby and bridal showers too. Just use another small item to put inside the bag, like mini baby bottles, or plastic ‘engagement’ rings, etc.
