DIY Graduation Cap Bottle Toppers

Make this DIY Graduation Cap for Fun Graduation Party Decor!

I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback about these mini graduation caps, and the modern triangle cupcake toppers I added to my modern-classic graduation party. So today I’m sharing the steps to make these cute diy graduation cap bottle toppers . I have to admit I think they look incredibly cute lined up on the table. These, plus the “diploma” napkin rolls are enough to bring home the graduation theme.

If you don’t want to use the Frappuccino bottles I used, you can always make your caps a bit smaller and place them on top of soda or water bottles. And if you have a lot to make, I would suggest starting early and putting together a few at a time. In fact you can cut out all of your shapes ahead of time and then put them together as time permits.

What do you fill your bottles with, to quench your thirst? My family-friendly golden graduation punch, of course! It’s a great signature drink to match the party color scheme.

Now, of course you can change up your colors of scrapbook paper and tassels to reflect your school’s colors if you like. These would also look cool on a grouping of bottles at a drink station. Fill them with milk and add them beside a row of peanut butter cup graduation caps.

What else would you top with these? You can make them as large or small as you need to. Hope you’ll give it a try!

How to Make Graduation Cap Toppers

Supplies:

  • Black scrapbook paper – you’ll need something with a little weight to it, but not heavy card stock
  • Small Black brads
  • Gold mini tassels {I got these at JoAnn’s in the upholstery trim section: 2 for $3}
  • Double sided tape and/or Glue Dots
  • Scissors

Cut strips from the scrapbook paper, that are about 1.25″ wide, and long enough to wrap around the bottle top you’re using {6.5″ here}.

Cut out squares from the scrapbook paper, that are a little larger than the bottle caps you’ll be topping.

Wrap the strips around and adhere the 2 ends together using double stick tape. This will be your base. {step 1}

Meanwhile, use a brad and push through the center of the square; add a tassel around the brad, and secure the brad to the square underneath. {step 2}

Add 2 glue dots to the ‘top’ edge of the base. {step 3}

Attach the top square to the base using the glue dots. {step 4}

Top your bottles!
