5 Steps To A Fabulous Awards Viewing Party

Oscars party or movie party ideas

Are you an awards night junkie like I am? I know there are some of you out there who host viewing parties and I’ve teamed up with Velveeta & Rotel brands to bring the 5 best ideas for hosting an Oscars-viewing party + a “dressed up” way to serve the classic dip. I wanted to limit this to 5 usable ideas so it doesn’t seem unattainable or overwhelming. These ideas can also be used to design any movie themed party like “A Star is Born” baby shower, or other movie themed birthday or bridal shower.

I love this time of year when we have the Golden Globes one week, the SAG’s another, and then the Grammy’s, and Oscars to finish it off. I get so excited to tune into the red carpet pre-show and see what everyone is wearing {remember my first love is fashion}, and then see how the host of the show does {does he/she offend anyone?}, and of course find out who wins the big awards.

beef and blue BLT

  • Great food is at the center of every gathering and an Awards viewing party just begs for bite sized appetizers.  These beef & blue cheese party sandwiches are delicious and can be dressed up for the Oscars by adding glittery “star” picks.

Popcorn-bar

  • Baseball and hot dogs….Carnivals and cotton candy….Movies and popcorn – some things just go together, so set up a popcorn bar like the one I did for Homes.com and let guests fill their own containers with the flavors they love.  Dress up the decor with “stars” of course.

Awards Night Viewing party - photo booth set up

  • Have a little fun with guests and set up a photo area for the “papparazzi” to take photos. Provide a curtain as a backdrop, and incorporate my DIY photo booth tips.

Awards Night Viewing party - champagne flutes with bow ties & buttons

  • Nothing less than champagne for movie stars, so that’s how you should roll too! Decorate fluted glasses with DIY mini bow ties and “buttons” to emulate all those luxe tuxes on the red carpet.

Awards Night Viewing party - movie themed props

  • Movie props help to bring it all to life. Head to the party store or Amazon and gather up a few props like directors megaphone, clapboard, film reel, etc.

Here’s a final appetizer to add to your party buffet. These mini bites turn the classic cheese dip into an elegant hors d’ouvres.

Dressed-Up Velveeta-Rotel Dip

  • velveeta & rotel ingredients16 oz Velveeta
  • 1 15 oz can Rotel tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded chicken breast
  • 1 15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed

Cut Velveeta into 1-inch cubes and place it with the Rotel in small crock pot.   Heat on high until melted, about an hour.

Stir and add black beans and chicken and continue to warm through on LOW.

Fill a tortilla scoop with dip and serve.

The creamy, cheesy taste of Velveeta pairs with fresh and spicy RO*TEL for a delicious Queso Dip perfect for any occasion!

Remember to PIN these ideas for later.  Have a great day!

The most important thing about parties & entertaining is the guest list! Next, it should be delicious, beautiful, unique, and fun. Calling on my years of experience, I’ll show you how to pull it all together with style. Cheers!
