DIY Bath Salts favor jars

Homemade bath and body products are so fun to make! You can use them as party favors by customizing the fragrances and colors to match your get-together. And they make great gifts for any gift-giving occasion.

Best of all, they are both inexpensive and easy to make! You can crank out a huge batch of homemade bath salts for under $20, and although I packaged this particular batch in little glass jars from the craft store, inexpensive cellophane bags work just as well.

Homemade Pink Grapefruit Bath Salts

from Melissa Bahen of Lulu the Baker

  • 2 cups Epsom salt
  • 1 cup pink Himalayan sea salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • zest of 1 very large grapefruit
  • 20 drops sweet orange essential oil*
  • 40 drops grapefruit essential oil*

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix very well so that the essential oils are evenly distributed. Spoon bath salts into small containers or cellophane bags, seal shut, and label!

*Citrus essential oils tend to be phototoxic. This just means that you shouldn’t take a bath in them if you’re going to be out in the sun all day. If you do, it will irritate your skin.

  1. This looks absolutely lovely – the packaging as well! I especially love the grapefruit essential oil and I’m looking forward to trying this recipe out. Citrus oils however are particularly strong and can cause light sensitivity as you specified in your post, but have you considered using rose hip seed oil? The smell is pleasant/neutral and it’s a potent carrier oil and makes a nice moisturizer blend. It’s also amazing for scar treatment healing burns/small stretchmarks. One of my favorites! Thanks for sharing your recipe. 🙂
