“You Are My Sunshine” Dessert Table

I’m excited to share a guest feature today – it’s been a while! The colors and the theme are perfect timing for Spring too. Candace of Lily Paul Designs created this baby shower theme, “You Are My Sunshine,” for a design event in Chicago. The catch? – do it on a $50 budget! The budget includes design – not food – so keep that in mind.

The mix of fabric patterns, a fresh color scheme, and the pretty paper labels create a lovely modern design perfect for any mom to be. Here are the highlight of the dessert table and a description from Candace…

From Candace: “When I was asked to participate in the “How to Throw a Bash on a Budget” event in Chicago with Kelsey of We Heart Parties, I knew I had to show how you can create an adorable party while being affordable (and not skimping out on the details).

Luckily I had a great group of fellow party ladies and bakers who were eager to offer free printables, desserts, and a few fun details including vintage milk bottles, paper straws, and chevron striped wooden spoons. With the desserts taken care of I set off to create the rest of the dessert table decor. While sticking to my rules of how to throw a bash on a budget, I hit the Dollar tree, rolled up my sleeves, and got crafty. I picked up the silver frames, thick yellow ribbon, vases, lemon heads, and the items to create my own DIY cake stand.

I also used my coupons for major craft stores like JoAnn’s, Michael’s, and Hobby Lobby to pick up the fabric and ribbon. Next I went through my own stash of party props to gather up a crisp white tablecloth, parfait shooters, cake stand and white platters. And with a quick stop to Whole Foods for some mini meringues and yellow flowers, my table was complete for a grand total of $46.00!

So next time you are planning a party or event, don’t be afraid to look for inexpensive treasures to re-purpose. ‘Shop’ your own house for decor and serving pieces, and pay attention to the small details whether it’s extra bows, cute inexpensive paper straws, or wooden cutlery. And remember, you CAN throw an adorable party while also being affordable!”
