Small Deck Decorating

Small deck decorating for the seasons is a breeze with just a few refreshing touches. That’s a good thing since I LOVE to refresh my spaces often! Add this small project to your list of things to do to get ready for summer entertaining.

Small deck decorating: updating with a few key pieces completely changes the look!

This is one of my favorite times of the year! Although the trees don’t show it yet, we’re getting the first signs of Spring with warm days and cool nights. Being in the South, spring and fall are the best seasons to spend outside on the deck and patio. Lucky for me it’s time for a small deck decorating refresh as I partner with BHG products at Walmart.

You may remember this little space from my patio decor post. I’ve changed it up with a few items to make it a great spot for sipping on tea or wine with my husband or a friend.

Start with a smart design plan

Let me start by emphasizing my decorating philosophy.

I believe in keeping the basic items in neutral tones, and building around those using color, pattern, and any other decorative touches. By doing this you can always change up your look easily as the mood strikes you.

Case in point, my chairs, garden stool {used as a table}, and the large planter are all neutral, while the rug, pillows, and cushions are bright and colorful. If I’m feeling like I want a modern black and white setting instead, I can easily change out the accessories and do so. Or, I could set up a monochromatic look using various shades of the same color. With a few switches of pillows, throws, cushions, even flowers, you can get a whole new look. It’s the greatest trick in a designer’s book!

Small Deck Decorating

  • Out went the bistro table and in came this garden stool to act as a table between two chairs. It’s just the right size for a couple of drinks and a small flower pot.
  • The chairs are updated with these multi-colored pillows. I love the retro style fabric and weave!
  • I used the same rug but flipped it over to the larger cabana stripe for a bold splash of color underfoot.
  • On the other side of the deck I brought in a large planter and filled it with a plant from the nursery at Walmart. I love the planter because it looks so much like real stone but it’s completely lightweight.
  • I brought out a colorful stool for an extra seat in case someone else wants to join us, and added a small stand to hold a tray of drinks.

Just these few pieces make this small deck warm and inviting, and totally different from the Fall look. It’s one of my favorite places to just sit and relax.

I hope these tips help you get ready for some outdoor living! You can set up a stylish space for family or for entertaining friends without spending a fortune, and by investing in a few eye-catching pieces. Choose a few items that speak to you, or that will refresh your existing space. You can dress up a neutral space by adding some lovely pieces like I did here. I think you’ll love the look!
