Shabby Chic Garden Party

If I didn’t know differently I would almost think that I styled this party shoot my self. Haha!! I think the layers of home and garden décor used in display, plus the asymmetrical design, plus the fact that it’s doable for ‘real life’ hostesses are all components I incorporate into many of my own styled shoots. So, it’s no wonder I jumped at the chance to share when Chris of Crissy’s Crafts submitted it.

Chris worked with Valentine’s themed printables from Bird’s Party to style this shabby chic garden party which showcases Bird’s Vintage Love Birds collection. She used items from around her home, and added a few thrift store items to complete the look. Chris created a food display, a seated table, and 3 activities for the kids (ages 8 – 12).

Here are some details as told by Chris: “I used the desk from my daughter’s room to display all the yummy treats, including chocolate bonbons (from Brazil), dark fudge kettle corn, Oreo cakesters, strawberry chocolate filled marshmallows, love birds chocolate cupcakes and chocolate dipped puffs. Most of the goodies were store bought and we made them look more festive!

I also had some healthy snacks like whole wheat love bird sandwiches and vegetables shots. All of the children followed the rule that they needed to eat healthy before they attacked the sweets!

I set up a large table for the girls to sit while they enjoyed the treats. I made a flower for the table’s centerpiece, out of soda cans and I made the cute DIY vintage napkin rings. The girls were thrilled that they were able to use the real napkins!! I found brand new lace napkins at my local thrift shop for 30 cents a piece!”

“I had 3 activities for them to choose from. The most popular one was “Steal my heart game”, where the children started by removing hearts from a bowl using only their chopsticks, and then placing the candies in front of them. When time is up, the player with the most candy hearts wins. We also had a “Make a Valentine’s Bracelet ” and “Make You’re Beary Special frames”.

The children took home the bracelets that they made, inside cute metal tins that were embellished with printable circles, and DIY pillow favor boxes and pink organza bags filled with kisses, M&M’s and Hershey’s Miniatures.

I also embellished the white frames, cupcakes, wooden birds, and doily banner.”

The decorative details of this party are just great for a spring bridal shower, Easter, or Mother’s Day. I always love bringing indoor furniture outside, and the ribbon garland is stunning. The trellis backdrop is the perfect touch for a garden party and I think I may have to hunt one down now!

  4. Very pretty, love the details and the printables really bring the shabby look all together.

  5. So lovely. She did a great job using unusual elements for her food display. And I always love it when someone remembers that a party is as much about activities for the kids as a beautiful setting.

  6. Oh so complicated, but still so pretty Chris. I am not into too much fuss when it comes to styling a table, I prefer clean and clear lines. The banner is a bit of a distraction to me, but what I love about the table per se is the uniqueness of the computer table and especially the pull out drawer. The cages and so many other day to day stuff that has been used.
