Pretty Picnic Luncheon

I have a couple more designs to share with you using our “citrus” theme vendor challenge. This one by Sarah of Dreamers Joy Events & Design adds purple to the (mostly) pink grapefruit and orange color palette to create a beautiful picnic party perfect for a shower, or special birthday. Of course the location lends itself to an amazing backdrop overlooking the Hudson River and NYC. Read on for the lovely details as told by Sarah…

As soon as I heard that my challenge was Citrus, I got very excited because it meant I was finally going to be shooting at a cool outdoor location to create a picnic party. I brainstormed on ideas for it and decided I wanted to stay away from the usual orange/lemon citrus theme, so I worked on creating a Citrus theme that involved the use of the color purple which I believe worked perfectly with the orange/grapefruit pink and green color scheme I had chosen. For the invitation, place cards and banner design, I worked closely with Wendy of Green Beansie Cards who was able to translate the inspiration and my design vision into the beautiful flower pattern used in the printables.

I purchased 2 ½ yards of orange fabric from IKEA which sells it in that narrow width so no sewing was required to make this table runner. Using a table runner helped me captured that casual and natural outdoors look I was going for. The flowers and centerpieces were simple. I used baby breath mixed with slices of grapefruit, orange and lemon in the main centerpiece and used two large mason jars which I embellished with orange ribbon and filled them with purple carnations. I also filled some cylinder vases with some mixed citrus fruits, candle votives filled with rocks and a slice of orange and adorned the table with some decorative wooden balls. For each setting, I used some purple plates I already owned and placed them on top of the natural palm leaf placemats which had a similar flower woven design as the one found in the printables. I purchased a yard of the orange/pink flower pattern fabric and made four 18X18 napkins to accessorize the plates and placed some mini skewers of citrus fruits on them.”

For the dessert table I contacted Jennifer of The Hudson Cakery to create a cake and sugar cookies to match the theme. Last but not least, I got in touch with Lynlee of Lynlee’s Petite Cakes, this was our first time working together and she was great to work with. She created the beautiful Orange/Purple Flower cupcake toppers.”

I love the overall feel of this party design, and the fact that Sarah adds just a touch of natural/rustic elements to the charming design.  The coordinating flower details on the desserts are adorable and would work in a little girls birthday party as easily as it works here.  This would be great for a dinner party with friends on a warm summer night, as well as a special occasion dinner. The colors are beautiful and all the details work together seamlessly. Great work by some great vendors!
