Welcome guests with a Balloon Walkway
Hi guys! Let’s talk about outdoor party decoration using balloons and a few other items. Not only is this idea great idea for birthdays but perfect for graduation, baby showers, and bridal showers too.
When you think about decorating for a party you usually think about designing the space where the party will actually take place. Usually that’s indoors. But I thought it would be fun to talk about decorating the outdoor space, or the “Welcome” area. It’s the first thing your guests will see and it really helps generate excitement.
As you know I’ve been working with Balloon Time for a while now, to bring you easy, festive party ideas. This one was inspired by the tradition of tying balloons to a mailbox at the end of a driveway to mark the party location. I thought, why not go a step further and really make the outdoor space pop!
Your guests will love walking up the driveway and to the front door when they’re surrounded by these festive touches. And there will be no doubt about where the party is for those who are following directions for the first time.
Outdoor Party Decor for Birthdays, Graduation, Showers and Beyond
There are three featured parts to this display: the walkway, the front porch, and the door. They all tie in together of course, but I like to break things down to small digestible pieces.
- First, I lined the walkway with a series of low floating balloons {see directions below}. For young kids these are eye-level; for adults they’re about thigh-level. Not only is this a decorative feature, but it can help guests locate the entry if they’re unfamiliar with your home or the location.
- On the front porch I set up another small display using gift boxes filled with party filler, and a small cluster of balloons taped to the bottom of the box. This is purely decorative, but looks so adorable.
- Finally, on the door I added a “PARTY” banner to dress up the entry.
Setting up a Balloon Walkway
- Balloon Time helium tank
- balloons
- thin ribbon, scissors
- screw hooks with at least a 1-inch base
Blow up balloons using the Balloon Time helium tank, knot the tails, and tie ends with ribbon cut to about 3 feet long.
Tie ribbon onto hooks and insert the screw end into the ground along the walkway.
I like using the screw hooks for this project because they disappear when inserted into the ground. I will add that you probably want to forego this part of the project if it’s a particularly windy day, as they could be pulled up and blown away…or you could just use larger screw hooks.
Next time you’re hosting a birthday party, don’t forget to decorate the outdoor Welcome space!
Balloons always add so much festivity to any celebration. I love your ground hooks idea!!!
super pretty idea! ♥
