Mary Poppins Birthday Party

I just love old classic movies and party themes, especially when they are filled with as much whimsy as this Mary Poppins themed party from Danielle of Cutie Putti Paperie. Danielle referenced so many aspects of the movie in the dessert table from “chimney sweep smoke” to “spoonfull of sugar” cake pops.

This is truly an inspiration for anyone who’s interested in doing the theme, as well as some cute general decorating ideas. Read on for a description from Danielle and get ready to take in all the eye candy…

“I couldn’t wait to see this dessert table come together! I was a fan of the fun and wonderment of Mary Poppins when I was a kid, and so excited to be able to translate such a classic into a modern day dessert table. I hope these ideas will show you how to take this old fashioned tale and turn it into a contemporary supercalifragilisticexpialidocious bash!

I opted for a large classic scenic sketch of the carousel scene for the backdrop. Of course amazing vendors and their beautiful items helped this table come alive. Cuddly Penguin cake pops were a big hit, and “spoonful of sugar” cake pops couldn’t have been sweeter! Other sweets included, delicious vanilla frosted cupcakes, some of which were donned with the most darling carousel horse fondant toppers by Edible Details.

  • “Let’s go fly a kite” sugar cookies
  • “Chimney Sweep Smoke” cotton candy
  • “Fiddlesticks” pixie stix
  • “Tuppence” Gold Chocolate coins
  • Pastel colored m&ms filled the centerpiece jars
  • ‘Purple Penguins’ – Vintage style milk glasses were filled with purple tinted lemonade, wrapped in a doily, adorned with a lavender rock candy swizzle stick.

For favors, little ones received Mary Poppins coloring pages, and treat bags filled with sidewalk chalk. The toppers gave Bert’s instructions for a “bit O’ magic”, “You think, you wink, you do a double blink, you close your eyes and jump!” They also received JUMBO pixie six with a whimsical “Thanks for ‘Poppin’ Over” favor tag! I have to say styling this table was “Practically Perfect in Every Way!”
