Inspired By This – Thrift Store Finds

This week my inspiration comes from my own thrift store shopping trip.  A couple of weeks ago I spent the afternoon at my favorite local antique mall and found some amazing treasures!  I love shopping when I’m not looking for anything specific because that’s when you seem to find the best stuff.  On this trip I found an amazing rolling cart {so retro}, an old ladder that will be great for displaying small items on the steps, and a fabulous old window.

Of course the window needed some attention because mermaids just won’t do in a shabby chic or vintage inspired design, so I scraped those off with a razor blade and now it’s the perfect accessory item to party or home decor.  As for the ladder, I love the old chipped and pealing paint but I think the yellow is a bit limiting.  I’m thinking I will paint it white instead.

UPDATE:  See how I used the rolling cart in a bridal shower design….see the window in a baby shower design…and how I customized the window.

Some of my smaller purchases consisted of a vintage camera, a floral frog, an old letter holder, and a silver tray.  I’m painting the inside of the tray with chalkboard paint – a popular thing to do now, and the letter holder and floral frog make great holders for food labels, small signs, or notes to the guest of honor.

The camera is so fantastic and only cost $8!!  It will look perfect next to photo props for a photo booth, or just sitting on a shelf as decor.

Here you can see the window once I scrapped the mermaids off and removed the shells that had been attached.  I will share with you soon how I incorporated it into the baby shower I styled yesterday.

So, what about you?  Do you ever go antiquing and become inspired by what you find?  Let us know about your best thrift store finds in the comments.  Have a great weekend!

I went to My favorite thrift stores this weekend to buy goodies for my Mad Hatter inspired 18th Birthday party. I can’t wait to get everything styled. I am super excited about this party. I am not a party stylist, only a mom. I got a tea pot, awesome bamboo frame and many tea cups (though not enough). I also got a couple of candle holders that will make the base of a small serving plate.
