Host a patio dinner party with easy recipes and tips

Hi guys! I know it’s been a little quiet here on the blog lately, but I’ve been busy behind the scenes traveling, getting inspired, and creating. We recently spent a week in New York City where I ate, drank, and walked my way into oblivion. I came back refreshed, and with several recipe ideas to share for entertaining at home. One of which is part of today’s menu for this sunset supper party on the patio.

Living in a Southern state means summer evenings are a mixed bag. Some days it’s hot, humid, and barely breathable outside, while others are mild, comfortable, and inviting. The latter is what we live for around here and makes summer entertaining a must. I’ve put together some inspiration for a summer dinner party including a succulent centerpiece, a tasty menu with recipes, and a lounge area for sipping after dinner drinks around the fire pit.

Sunset Supper Party

This sunset supper party is casual and laid back. The table setting is kept simple with linen fabric straight off the bolt used as a tablecloth. Everyday white dishes get a boost of color by layering on vintage pink glass salad plates, and copper plant markers are used as place cards.

The centerpiece is a planter filled with succulents that can last all season long. I just love the variety of colors and textures of the plants, and the low profile of the planter makes it easy to talk over.

The delicious summer menu includes tomato and goat cheese salad {recipe below}, lemon-herb grilled chicken {recipe here), and my best classic pasta salad recipe. For dessert this no-churn easy ice cream served alongside my blackberry custard pie is fantastic!

Serve a signature cocktail to lounge with afterwards. We had the most amazing sparkling mojito in New York and I’m re-creating that for you very soon. Stay tuned!

After dinner you’ll want to linger in comfort, under the stars. Set up a seating area around the fire pit, and light up the duraflame® stax Firelogs. It will add the ambiance you want when entertaining.

I’m re-creating one of the salads I had on our trip to NYC. Salads are such a simple menu item but when you’re hosting a dinner party it’s nice to dress them up with ingredients you might not use every day. This one hit all the right notes for me: texture, color, and goat cheese! I used a purchased citrus vinaigrette to dress the salad, but you can make your own if you like.

Tomato & Goat Cheese Salad

  • Arugula & baby spinach mix
  • Cherry tomato medley {yellow, orange, purple}
  • Goat Cheese
  • Almonds
  • Crispy tortilla strips salad topping
  • lemon vinaigrette dressing

Place greens on a small platter. Cut tomatoes in half and layer them on top.

Cut goat cheese into medallions and layer it on. Top with almonds and tortilla strips.

Drizzle with lemon vinaigrette dressing and serve.

Bon appetit!

  3. I wish I was your neighbor!! We need to get these logs for our firepit, so much easier than my husband splitting wood from our big fireplace wood pile!

    1. Would LOVE to be your neighbor, Cheryl! Seriously loving the logs. Great to not have to worry about them being wet from a recent rain, or for splitting wood! 😀
