Shabby Chic Dessert Table

shabby chic dessert table

Welcome to part 2 of my shabby chic {fashionista} bridal shower {see the table and bar in part 1 here} which is everyone’s favorite – the dessert table. As usual, I used a combination of purchased items and homemade items, and filled in with color coordinating candies. This way the table ends up looking full but there’s not an over abundance of sweets that either doesn’t get eaten, OR goes directly onto your thighs!

My favorite thing on the table is my DIY ribbon & trim “cake” centerpiece. The idea came to me one day at random, and I was so please that it turned out just as cool as I had envisioned!

Get The Look

  • I used my white ruffle shower curtain as a backdrop and since this was set up outside I used 2 garden hooks as the “stand” and a curtain rod to hang across them. A great solution for outdoor areas when you want to create a “wall.”
  • The ribbon cake can be made for any event using any colors. I’ll share the DIY for that soon. I think it really is a conversation piece and quite unique {patting my self on the back}.
  • Working with a cream, white, tan, & brown color scheme makes picking desserts an easy task. White and dark chocolate are the perfect solution and available in so many creations. I chose white taffy, gumballs, covered pretzels, merengues, and macarons to fill in pretty containers.
  • Vanilla cupcakes are topped off with white and dark chocolate “buttons.” I used a button lollipop mold and just poured them without using the stick.
  • My favorite “pop” is brownie pops, which I made and dipped in white and dark chocolate. I dressed them up in different ways to add interest, and added lace flags to the stick. They look adorable displayed inside a tiny travel case surrounded by pearl sprinkles.
  • Instead of milk and cookies, I added sophistication to the idea by serving “adult” chocolate milk and mini stroopwafels on top.
  • To add an extra decorative touch to the area, I filled a wire basket with fabric, spools of thread, ribbon, etc, and added a sign made from an iron-on transfer and embroidery hoop.

  • I couldn’t resist going all out for the sweet favors display. I found this very cool wire rolling cart at HomeGoods a while back and thought it would be great in this party design. I filled it with more sewing notions and fabric, and made a ribbon and trim swag to hang across the front.
  • I also made my own pin cushion for the display since I couldn’t find one that was a neutral color. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be – trying to pull the fabric together without getting too many folds in the cushion was tough. It ended up being cute enough though.
  • Sweet favors for this theme consisted of mini jars filled with a brown & white trail mix, and topped with a fabric flower. I find the best trail mixes at Target and combined 2 different ones to get what I wanted. You could also make your own starting with this sweet & salty mix.

Tomorrow I have a fantastic bacon appetizer recipe to share. It’s a delicious appetizer that would be perfect to serve at this shower while guests are arriving. I’ll also share some DIY’s next week so you can recreate this theme.
