Peppermint Oreo Truffles + Toasted Marshmallow Topping for Hot Cocoa

peppermint oreo truffles

A few years ago I posted the classic Oreo Truffles recipe, and if you’ve ever tried them you know how amazing they are.  Well, you can  also make them using the Peppermint Oreos {available at Food Lion for a limited time} that just scream “holiday.”

These Peppermint Oreo Truffles are easy to make and I served them up in a chocolate & peppermint rimmed glass, with hot cocoa and toasted marshmallow toppers, and peppermint spoons {from Party City} that I dipped in more chocolate.  It’s a festive way to celebrate and enjoy the taste of the season.  Here’s the recipe, and my tips for making the toasted marshmallow toppers…

Peppermint OREO Truffles

  • 1 – 8 oz block of light cream cheese, softened
  • 1 package Peppermint Creme OREO cookies, finely crushed {use a food processor for this}
  • 2 cups semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
  • 8 starlight mints, coarsely crushed

Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended.

Use a mini scoop to shape about 48 balls; roll them in the palm of your hands to make them round and smooth.  Freeze for 10-15 minutes.

Dip balls in melted chocolate and place them in a single layer on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.  Sprinkle with crushed mints and refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.

Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

Using left over melted chocolate & candy, dip the rim of a martini glass into the chocolate and then into crushed mints; place in refrigerator to set up.  Serve truffles inside glass.

These are wonderful on a holiday party dessert table, or as an afternoon treat for the family.  Serve them with hot cocoa that’s been topped with toasted mini marshmallows…

  • Lightly spray a small sheet of aluminum foil with nonstick cooking spray.  Cluster a group of mini marshmallows together and place them under the broiler for about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.
  • Remove and let cool for a minute.  Spray a mini spatula with nonstick spray and use it to transfer toasted marshmallows to the hot cocoa.

      Linda, it’s those small round peppermint candies {white with red stripes} that you see a lot at Christmas time.

    I don’t like sweets, but my kids do. So, I have to cook something delicious for them. And your recipe is just something I am in! Especially when they bring high grades. How can I not support them?
