I’m excited to share the tutorial for this today, which is made with plywood and paint. Jeff created this geometric lattice pattern based off of a design he saw on a duvet cover. He shows you step-by-step how to make it, but you can also apply his techniques to other patterns as well….Oh the possibilities!

  • To begin, Jeff primed a large piece of plywood with 2 coats of glossy white primer.
  • The pattern was not as complicated as it looks. It breaks down into a series of squares. The key is to measure twice, and paint once.
  • Use painters tape to lay out the pattern and firmly press down all the tape lines.
  • The key to ensure that there’s no bleeding is to paint over the tape with more white paint. This may seem redundant and a lot of people skip this step, but it will save you so much time and the end when you have little to no touch-up jobs. When the white paint dries it creates a seal between the paint and the board, ensuring the colors have crisp, straight lines.
  • Next paint in the squares with the 2 different colors of craft paint, in the pattern you want.
  • Let paint dry and remove tape carefully.

  1. Hello! I just wanted to say a big thank you for this post. It completely inspired me when I was making over a wardrobe – bright, bold and beautiful! You can take a look at my interpretation if you would like to. Geometric patterns – yeah!

  2. Did you just prop the backdrop or was it secured with something when used for the dessert table?
