Engagement Party Meant to “Bee” Theme

We designed this ‘meant to bee’ engagement party with a vintage look and incorporated some unique specialized touches. See details and sources below.

Meant to bee engagement party

Last weekend I had the pleasure of designing an engagement party for a good friend. In fact, it’s for the same gal that I did this Sweet 16 party for five years ago! Now she’s getting married and we created this “meant to bee” engagement party to celebrate the announcement with family and friends.

The decor has a vintage look inspired by the “meant to bee” paper suite that was chosen. I set up two focal points – the dessert table and the welcome table – plus six seated tables for this Sunday luncheon. The desserts were a combination of designer items by local artisans, and homemade goodies. Check out the details below.

  • While we went with the bee motif throughout the party, we didn’t over do it. On the dessert table, the cake was designed beautifully, the cookies were themed and wrapped to take home, and we had a jar of Honeycomb cereal for the kids to snack on. Since the cake was vanilla we had chocolate cake pops planned for the table as well, but a last minute scheduling snafu caused us to go with plan B and make brownies instead. To add a nod to the groom-to-be’s heritage, we made mini tres leches cakes topped with chocolate bees.
  • We set up a welcome table where guests could write down advice for the couple, and read about their engagement story. The proposal took place on a hot air balloon ride so we incorporated that into the party decor as well.
  • We gathered childhood photos of the couple and displayed them on a vintage wire form.
  • Lunch was served by a local pizza truck, which was a really fun idea that everyone loved. Tables were set simply with kraft paper runners, and mason jar centerpieces with lots of greenery. Small beeswax candles doubled as table decoration and favors for the guests to take home.

The party was a wonderful success and a great time was had by all!
