Sometimes the simplest ideas are the “sweetest” and that couldn’t be more true than when you make your own dessert skewers. There have been a lot of candy skewers featured over the years, using fruity jelly-style candies and marshmallows. The ones I’ve created here are a little more refined and may appeal to adults more than the aforementioned {of course kids love ’em too}.

These can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or even a cocktail! They’re darling standing upright using the flat bottom side of the candy as a base. You could also lay them on a platter or stand them up in jars.

This is a fun treat to make your self for bridal and baby showers, birthdays, graduation, etc. I’ve even made a special themed skewer for Valentines day.

Make Your Own Dessert Skewers

  • Small box of assorted chocolates with a flat base
  • Round truffles {I used Lindt & Raffaello brands}
  • Doughnut holes
  • 8 inch wooden skewers

Carefully poke the skewer through each item and slide them on. Make sure to use the flat chocolate at the end so it will stand on it’s on.

Embellish the top portion of the skewer with paper or ribbon flags.

Dress the skewers for Valentine’s Day by adding in heart-shaped marshmallows, and themed embellishments to the skewer.

I also dipped the doughnut holes in red-tinted melted chocolate to add to the theme.

You can find a myriad of ways to dress up your wooden skewers. Use paper flags and toppers like the ones above, or tie on pieces of ribbon like I’ve done here. Have fun with this and use your imagination. You can really incorporate whatever candies you can find that will easily slide over the wooden skewers.

Place these on the dessert table or wrap them in cellophane for take home treats for guests!

    1. Veda, I made those using wooden skewers from the grocery store, and craft balls from Michael’s. Craft glue holds it in place.
