Easy Mini Desserts in a Jar

I’ve been meaning to update this idea for a long time with new photos and a new recipe. My dessert parfaits served in mini jars is an idea I came up with a couple of years ago for a sip n “sea” baby shower I hosted, and they were a huge hit! This time I tried a new combination of layers and the results were DELICIOUS.

My inspiration was the amazing cake that was served at the Camp LeJeune Operation Shower {the one with Mrs. Obama & Martha Stewart} and I wanted to re-create the soft cake + crunchy cookie + creamy filling layers that it had.  I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but to my pleasant surprise they were so good I just wanted to keep eating more!

Let these sit in the refrigerator overnight and the flavors will meld together and blend perfectly. The addition of the shortbread cookies was a great idea and the whipped frosting is lighter than the traditional frosting so I think it works better here. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

For a different flavor profile and color presentation, try my black and white parfaits version here.

BTW, I collected enough jars for the shower by purchasing the fruit varieties over a couple of weeks; and yes, I even ate most of them!

Dessert Parfaits recipe

  • Prepared Yellow Cake
  • Pecan Sandies Cookies
  • No-Bake Cheesecake filling, prepared
  • Whipped Cream Frosting
  • Sugared Pecans for garnish
  • Small baby food jars, labels removed and cleaned

Break up cake into small pieces and place into jar for the first layer. Crumble up 1 cookie and make it the second layer. Add cheesecake filling for 3rd layer, then more cake on top. Finish it off with the whipped cream frosting {using a pastry bag for a pretty swirl} and a sugared pecan.

Place these in the refrigerator, loosely covered, overnight so the flavors blend.

    1. Bethany I honestly can’t remember the size at this time. They’re not the tall size. I would call them the “classic” size(?). Sorry. The good thing is that these aren’t’ based on exact measurements. 🙂
