HOST A CASUAL COOKOUT {recipes included}

host a casual cookout

Labor day is just around the corner which means end-of-summer cookouts will be hosted everywhere, and once again I’ve teamed up with Hebrew National to bring you ideas and recipes for your outdoor grilling and entertaining. It never fails that we include hot dogs on the menu when we grill out with friends, so today I’m sharing some unique toppings that will spice up your Hebrew National hot dogs.

I recently put together this casual cookout for a few friends and set it up in no time. The menu was simple, the table was simple, and the vibe was laid back and care free. To add a little pizzazz to the evening, I created a corn and avocado relish, a spicy jalapeno slaw, and curry ketchup as part of the toppings bar. The taste was delicious and I’ve definitely found some new favorite recipes.

The Simple Plan:

  • You can see how minimal I went with the table setting. A floral centerpiece, burlap runner, individual bottles on ice, and a hint of color in the blue napkins. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
  • The menu consisted of Hebrew National hot dogs, baked beans, and chips {and ice cream for dessert}.
  • Toppings for the hot dogs really dress up the occasion and included curried Hunts Ketchup, Gulden’s spicy brown mustard, my roasted corn and avocado relish, and jalapeno slaw. Get these recipes below.

Curry ketchup is popular right now and it’s delicious here as well as on french fries and burgers. The corn relish was out of this world and makes a yummy ‘dip’ for tortilla chips too. Finally, the jalapeno slaw was yummy with a kick and can be served as a side dish as well.

roasted corn and avocado relish recipe

Roasted Corn & Avocado Relish

  • 1 cup corn {frozen, canned or fresh}
  • 1/2 of an Avocado, diced
  • 1 medium Tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cup fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 of a Lime
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground Cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Spray a small pan lightly with non-stick spray, and saute corn over medium heat until it begins to caramelize slightly. Remove from heat and cool.

In a medium sized bowl, combine corn, avocado, tomato, and cilantro.

Squeeze the juice from 1/2 of a lime into combination and stir.

Add cumin and salt. Stir, cover tightly, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Serve as a relish for hot dogs or scoop with tortilla chips.

  • 1/4 cup light mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup pineapple tidbits from small can
  • 1 Tablespoon pineapple juice from the can of tidbits

Combine all ingredients together, cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

Serve on hot dogs or as a side dish.

Hebrew NationalWith grilling season upon us, everyone is craving an all-American hot dog. What makes a kosher hot dog different? It’s all about what makes the cut (and what doesn’t). Hebrew National is choosy about what goes into their franks – only 100% pure kosher beef so you know what you’re getting and they taste great. No artificial flavors, colors, fillers or byproducts.
