Book Reviews For The DIY-er

book review

Sitting in a comfortable spot {away from the computer} and flipping through REAL pages is still one of my favorite pastimes. This month I’ve chosen 2 books to review, and 1 magazine to tell you about. The first book is seasonal and you should get it asap for Halloween ideas, while the other is good for year-round reading.

Spooky and BrightSpooky and Bright 2

Spooky & Bright by Country Living – This book is small in size, but big on content! Filled with 101 ideas with coordinating photos, it delivers everything I love in a book. The text is easy to read and to the point, and there are recipes and DIY instructions included. You may have seen some of the images on their website or in the magazine, but there were lots that I’ve never seen before. I would definitely recommend this book for inspiring your Halloween fun.

Food in JarsFood in Jars 2

Food in Jars by Marisa McClellan – Don’t be fooled by the name. This is not a book filled with “dessert in a jar” recipes, but more about canning and preserving. If you enjoy canning then this may be up your alley. Even if you’ve never done it before but want to learn, there are instructions in the front to get you started. It’s full of recipes for jams/jellies, etc, pickled foods, and sauces, salsas, and relishes. There aren’t photos for every recipe but there’s a good amount.

If you enjoy this sort of thing then I think this is a good book for you. It has a lot to choose from!

Bird's Partybirds party mag

Bird’s Party Collector’s Edition – You all know my friend Bird - we’ve collaborated together for years. She recently had the opportunity to publish a party magazine {in French} that was sold across news stands in France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, & Maghreb. In fact, the Little Birdies Baby Shower I did was included inside {plus a bonus DIY for the chocolate nests}!

Now, there’s a special collector’s edition of the magazine available in English. It’s a digital version and includes FREE downloadable printables, plus LOTS of other styled parties for inspiration. You can purchase the special digital version here {for less than $7!}.

For more inspiration, follow me on Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter. Cheers!
