Ladies Night Chocolate Tasting Party

ladies night chocolate tasting party by Celebrations At Home

I’m excited to share this post as it’s the first ‘official’ party I’ve hosted in the new house, not to mention I got to work with….GODIVA TRUFFLES! Not a bad day at the office, right!

Let me set this up for you. Godiva has a new line of truffle flights in several different flavor profiles ranging from milk chocolate lovers to dessert lovers to mousse lovers, etc. There are 6 different truffles in each flight and the idea is to taste each truffle in order so you get a total experience.

Well, I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon than with some awesome girl friends, champagne, and chocolate. Can you? I hosted this chocolate tasting party for some gal pals and I’m sharing all the details, plus a wonderful palate cleansing cheese shortbread cracker recipe. Ready to see?

Our chocolate tasting included the Nut Lovers flight. I think my favorite of the bunch was the very first one – Salted Almond, mmmmm. Pecan Caramel was also a big hit with the girls, as well as Pistachio. It doesn’t really matter though does it? They’re all amazing!

Party Details:

  • This is one of the easiest parties I think I’ve ever set up. The cheese crackers were made the night before, and the the other food and drink were “open and serve.” I had fun with the table, but kept it simple and modern with kraft paper “tablecloth” and chalkboard details {I love the combo of black and tan}.
  • I found this vinyl chalkboard runner at Hobby Lobby and cut it to size. It has an adhesive back so it lays nicely over the kraft paper.
  • I got a little crafty a couple of days before and made “tasting notes” cards with each girls name on it. It was a place to make notes about flavors and it also served as place cards. I love the “opposite” effect of using white markers on the black cards instead of the usual black markers on white or cream. It ties in with the chalkboard runner nicely.
  • My latest obsession is mini cutting boards. I bought 4 for about $3 each, at TJMaxx and HomeGoods. They were the perfect serving piece for the truffles, and I numbered them in order of the tasting, by writing on the kraft paper “tablecloth.”
  • The chalkboard sign on the table serves as the directive for truffle tasting order.
  • Since nuts and fruit go so well together – especially in chocolate – I decided to pair these nut lovers truffles with an assortment of dried fruit. Dried mango, apricots, pineapple, and raisins were piled into a wooden trough in the center of the table so everyone could pick what they wanted.  The mango paired particularly well with the pecan caramel, while raisins were good with maple walnut.
  • In order to offset all that sweetness, I made cheese-pecan shortbread crackers {recipe is below}. These were a nice palate cleanser between tastings, as well as a savory break when needed. I’m a huge fan of alternating between sweet and savory nibbles.
  • And of course, champagne is the only thing to serve with truffles! We enjoyed a bottle of bubbly as we sat and chatted.

  • After the tasting, there were favor boxes with a bag of cheese crackers and a mini bottle of wine.
  • Also, because the flavor of the truffles is so intense, we all pretty much took a couple of bites of each truffle and saved the rest for later….well, except for each of us eating the entire truffle of whichever flavor was our favorite. The nice thing is that the truffles are packaged individually in the flight box so everyone could just store the remaining portion inside and take it home.
  • My friend Sarah {top right photo} is planning a baby shower and thought the truffles would be a great addition.  I agree!  They would also make fabulous hostess gifts, or holiday gifts.

Is this an idea you’d like to try? If so, I hope you’ll use these tips and ideas for a fun night with friends. Use the cheese-pecan shortbread recipe below as a savory option and/or favor idea.

cheese and pecan shortbreak crackers

These crackers are crispy and light {as shortbread is} and can easily be addictive.  They’re cheesy with a hint of spice from the pepper jack.  The addition of the toasted pecans makes it perfect in my book.

Cheese-Pecan Shortbread Crackers

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup (4 oz) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded {don’t use pre-shredded}
  • 1 cup (4 oz) pepper jack cheese, shredded {don’t use pre-shredded}
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans, lightly toasted
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper

Combine butter and cheese until well mixed.

Stir in remaining ingredients until a moist, thick dough is formed.

Shape dough into several 6-8 inch logs, and wrap in saran wrap. Refrigerate for a few hours or over night.

To bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees. Slice cheese logs into 1/4 inch rounds and place on baking sheet.

Bake for 12 minutes or until cooked through.

Makes about 8 dozen crackers.

TIP: Freeze dough logs for future occasions. Let stand at room temperature {or thaw in refrigerator} until you are able to slice through the logs, and bake.

Be sure to PIN THIS RECIPE for later!

Godiva logoGet ready to experience truffles as you never have before. Much like you would taste a wine flight, tasting a GODIVA Truffle Flight is a progressive exploration of flavors, textures and aromas. Our Executive Chef Chocolatier, Thierry Muret, personally selected the truffles in each of the six flights, placing them in order for the ideal tasting experience. The concept is thoroughly groundbreaking—we know because we invented it—and deliciously GODIVA.
