Field Trip: Home Fashion Workshop

home decor workshop

Since we’re in full blown “new house” mode I can’t stop thinking about how I’m going to decorate the new place. Obviously I’ll incorporate most of what we have already, but there are certainly some new items I’ll need to get too. Not to mention I’m ready to change up my color palette and style anyway {it’s been about 5 years since my last re-do}.

I mentioned before that I was going on a sponsored workshop on home decor. The workshop I attended was at Havertys Furniture Store, and the topic was about decorating with accent pieces from their Ala Carte line. You know, the pieces of furniture that don’t belong to a matched set…the pieces that add personalitythe STATEMENT pieces!  I LOVE home decor, and I love an eclectic look, so this session was right up my alley.

The workshop was 30 minutes on a Saturday morning, and they covered 3 spaces: under the stairs {or foyer}, the bedroom, and the living room. For each room they showcases several furniture items that would be suitable for that space, and ideas for incorporating them. For instance, use 2 different styles of tables for nightstands on either side of the bed. That way it looks more interesting and like it’s been “collected” over time.

They also had ideas on creating accessory vignettes on table – something we do in party design all the time. Playing with accessories is so much fun, and can be relatively inexpensive to change a look.
