Cream Cheese Mold With Craisin-Nut Topping

cream cheese mold with craisin & nut topping

I’m taking it “old school with a modern twist” today with this cream cheese spread. I can’t think of too many appetizers that have stood the test of time, nor are EASIER to make than a block of cream cheese topped with pepper jelly. Well, since I obviously can’t blog about that {what’s new to say} I DO have an updated version that I think I know you will LOVE.

What makes this more special is that I use a fluted tin to mold the cream cheese, and the topping is made with a seasonal blend of Craisins & nuts adapted from an old Southern Living recipe. PIN this one for your next gathering…

Cream Cheese Mold

  • fluted mold12 oz. cream cheese {a block & a half}, at room temperature
  • small to medium sized fluted pan or bundt pan
  • Saran wrap

Line the pan with saran wrap completely covering the inside, with plenty of overhang.

Gently knead the cream cheese so it’s not in it’s block form anymore, making it easier to work with. Begin pressing it into the mold making sure to fill any decorative gaps or fluting with the cheese. Level the top {which will become the bottom when you serve it}.

Pull up the saran wrap overhang and wrap the cream cheese. Refrigerate over night.

To serve, gently remove the cheese & wrap from the mold. Unwrap the saran wrap and transfer the cream cheese mold onto a serving dish, bottom up so the decorative shape what you see. Now top with the craisin nut topping.

Craisin Nut Topping

  • 3/4 cup Craisins
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans, lightly toasted
  • 3 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • honey – about 1/4 cup

Combine Craisins, nuts, and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle it over the cream cheese mold.

Drizzle honey over mixture. Cover and chill if making ahead. Let cheese come to room temperature when ready to serve.

Serve this with ginger thins, Ritz crackers, or water crackers.

I served this at our Christmas cocktail party and it got rave reviews – even from a friend who doesn’t like honey (?)! All the men loved it too, which I find can be a tough sell for anything other than meat dishes or really hearty items.

The combination of the tart Craisins, the crunchy toasted nuts, the sweet sugars, and the cream cheese is a marriage made in heaven. Give this a try for ladies gatherings too, like showers or ladies nights.
