If you’re looking for cowboy themed party ideas, then check out one of my recent projects for Celebrations, inspired by Pear Tree Greetings invitation. I’ve shared some simple & practical decorating ideas, a yummy “home on the range” beanie weenie recipe, DIY crafts, free trail mix bag toppers {see link at bottom}, and a themed activity that will have the kids panning for gold!

You’ll also note this is the party design where I served my DIY Pie Pops {follow the link for the instructions}.  Happy Trails, pardner!

Cowboy Themed party ideas:

  • Serve “cowboy grub” in tin baking rounds from the dollar store. We love homemade beanie weenies with biscuits. Bandannas can serve as napkins.
  • Easy decorations are made by wrapping empty {and cleaned} soup cans with plaid fabric and twine.
  • A diy frame holds a photo of the birthday boy. To give it the Western flair, wrap it with rope and attach it with a glue gun as you move around the shape of the frame.
  • Bottled Root Beer or Sarsaparilla are made adorable by wrapping “bandannas” around the bottle neck, and topping with mini hats found at the craft store.
  • Mini bails of hay are a perfect way to display food. Other decorative items are horseshoes, and “tumbleweeds” {rattan spheres}.
  • Make an easy trail mix for party favors and top with a printable sign that says “happy trails to you.” Download and print the FREE toppers here.
  • The perfect activity for your little cowboys is panning for gold. Fill a kiddie pool with some sand from the home improvement store, and water. Drop in lots of rocks and “gold nuggets” {rocks that we spray painted}. Give your guests tin pie pan from the dollar store, and let them scoop and sift the water and sand to uncover the gold. You could include a small prize for the person with them most golden nuggets at the end.

  1. I was wondering how you did the panning for Gold. Could you please share?
    Thanks!

  2. Hi, I love the trail mix tags. I would like to use it for my son’s upcoming school Rodeo celebration, however, I’m using a printable label. Would you be willing to send me a single image that I could use in creating the template?

    1. Thanks Laura. My kids love the trail mix, but that’s the beauty of it – you can customize the ingredients for your own taste! 😉
