Trend Alert – Painted Rolling Carts

I suddenly have a small obsession…for painted rolling carts, aka garden carts or tea carts. These are showing up all over the webs as crafty types give new life to an old cart by adding a splash of paint and turning it into a rolling bar display. Perhaps I’m so obsessed because I actually have an old cart sitting outside, as I type. It is just waiting for me to get a can of Rustoleum paint and turn it into something wonderful.

I can’t decide if I would rather go with a classic white for a modern or shabby chic look, or metallic gold for a 40′s glam look. As I decide, here are some of my favorite inspiring photos…

  • Top:  I love the bamboo look of the carts especially combined with the gold paint. If feels so “old Hollywood Glam.”
  • Bottom:  The metal carts are also pretty fab and look great painted white or another vibrant color. These could work in a modern setting or a shabby chic design.
  • The idea of setting up a temporary bar on these, either inside or out, is enough to make me want to plan a whole party around it! Of course other snacks look equally cool served on them too .

What do think about these carts?  Do you have an old one you can bring back to life with paint?

  1. I love this idea and almost bought a cart off Craig’s List for our Vintage Pink & Yellow Tea Party, but decided to be good and not spend an extra $50. I say go bright with your cart!

  2. Love the cart idea and your pics are fabulous choices

  3. I totally have one that I need to repaint! Mine is actually a “microwave cart” (you can see it here with the blue drinks on it!: http://thisnestisbest.com/2012/01/16/mad-men-birthday-party/), but it’s vintage from my grandma and I love it! I would love to repaint it a soft aqua :)

  4. I’m so glad you all love this trend/idea as much as I do!

I would love one of these in my dining room. It would save us having to go downstairs to the bar in the basement when I want a drink. Not sure what color I would go with though – maybe oil rubbed bronze or Chinese red???

    • Ruth, I think red would look fantastic, especially on one that has the bamboo look. Both are classic choices though.

  6. Ellen Bessette says:

I agree. I’d do a party around one of these carts too! :)

  7. Thanks for including my Sedgewick design! In launching my business, Society Social, it was my mission to bring the bar cart back :)

  8. OMG! I want one!!!!
