New Ideas For Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboards have been popular in parties and entertaining for quite a while now, but recently I’ve found some new and unique ways they have been integrated. From backdrop walls to tabletop decor, these are some of my favorite ideas right now, and some that I hope you’ll incorporate.

  • Could this dessert table back drop be any cuter, cooler, or more creative??! I think not! Using the chalkboard as a sort of “blueprint” to the table’s layout is positively inspired. You could do this by hanging or leaning a large chalkboard on the wall behind.  FYI, you can paint most any rigid item with chalkboard paint, such as foam core, cardboard, plywood, etc.

  • Similar to the first photo, the “Eat, Drink, Enjoy” chalkboard sign is just as eye catching, but simpler in its design. Easily create this by spray painting a large piece of cardboard or foam core with chalkboard paint.
  • Two more creative ways to display your menu: a two-sided silver tray display shares the menu on one side and spices on the other. The spice containers can be filled with salt & pepper and other spices your guests might use, OR be filled with exotic spices you’ve used in the cooked dishes.
  • Your menu can also be displayed in a DIY frame and each panel can offer a different course or menu item.

From wall display to tabletop, these chalkboard ideas just keep getting better:

  • Chalk-painted silver trays are ever so popular in wedding design and it transfers perfectly to other parties as well. Unless you’re really good at taping off circles, you’ll need to use a brush to apply chalkboard paint to create these trays. The result is worth the time though as you can use these to display directions, messages, drink recipes at the bar, or anything else you can think of.
  • Another fun idea for the table is to upcycle your food cans and paint them. They do double duty as they hold a bounty of flowers and relay a message at the same time.
  • More upcycle ideas: Paint a wine bottle and incorporate it into your centerpiece with a sweet message. It can be topped with a decorative stopper, a candle, or flowers for a finished look
  • For an amazing impact cover your table with a roll of black paper. Although it’s not actually a “chalkboard” you can still write on it with chalk for the same affect.
  • Use mini chalkboards from the craft store to act as a “tray” to hold things like salt & pepper, sugar & creamer, or as a “coaster” to hold a carafe of wine. The fun part is that you can write the item names on the chalkboard.
  • Lastly, paint the base of a stem glass with chalkboard spray paint and you have a great place to write guests names so they never lose their glass.

What do you think of these chalkboard ideas? Which is YOUR favorite?
