New Years Eve Block Party + FREE Printable Banner {Guest Feature}

I have another family friendly New Years Eve party to share with you today. This one comes from Jennifer of Double Fun Parties and she has included some fun activities for the kids. She put together a budget wise Block Party for friends and neighbors with a buffet table including savory snacks and desserts for just $131. To make it even more budget friendly you could make this a pot luck party.

Read on for all the details, the menu, and the creative activities told by Jennifer

If you are the stay-home type when it comes to New Year’s Eve, I have an inexpensive and easy block party idea for you! Have the adults upstairs, and the kids in your playroom with a babysitter, and you’re halfway there. I used teal and silver, and many items that I already owned to pull together this look for just $131.

  • In the downstairs playroom, I hung a ruffled teal backdrop from a suspension rod between two bookcases. Then used a white twin flat sheet to cover the serving area and the open toy bins. To the backdrop I added this FREE printable “2012″ banner from Michelle of Bugaboo Announcements.
  • To the flat sheet, I pinned a garland made from distressed silver beads and covered the pins with rosettes of silver tinsel garland. In the center of the bead garland, I used plastic house numbers to create “2012.”
  • On the buffet, I filled apothecary jars with silver and teal ornaments and topped them with ribbon. I used clocks from my home — plus a few from Goodwill that I painted — to help with the countdown idea.
  • The buffet of finger foods included mini pizzas, ham biscuits, apple grilled cheese sandwichesveggie sticks, and Cutie oranges that were also the centerpiece.
  • Sweets included marshmallow popcorn balls and Cake trimmed with white Sixlets and topped with mini bunting.
  • To prevent spills, I provided milk in Starbucks bottles with altered lids, and covered the edges of the lids with white cardstock and the tops with more silver garland. The sides were wrapped in teal glitter paper and two bands of rhinestone bling.”

  • “For entertainment, the kids played “Name that Oreo” with six types of Oreos in containers labeled one through six. Then, without peeking, the kids tasted each Oreo and wrote the number of the container by the flavor they thought each cookie was.
  • The next activities were creating a timeline of each child’s year (the idea was to write down a memorable event from each month of the past year) and writing down our New Year’s resolutions.
  • At the end of the party, the kids had a blast blowing their noisemakers — made by covering Dollar Tree noisemakers in silver polka dot glitter scrapbook paper and finished it with a length of teal ribbon and silver garland.”

Wow, there are so many great ideas Jennifer incorporated. The activities are great and the menu sounds delicious! I hope you’ll try some of these ideas for your New Years Eve gathering.

Cheers!
