Homemade Gift Idea – Savory Snack Mix

We tend to give so many sweet treats at Christmas time but today I’m sharing a Savory Snack Mix that you can mix up and give, or serve during your holiday entertaining. In my experience men usually go for the salty snacks over the sweet ones, so this may be a great alternative for your male co-workers, or friends. This is also a nice take home favor when placed in these cute Chinese take-out cartons and tied up with bakers twine. Once again I used a printable tag from Bird’s Party as this was part of my contribution to Bird’s Party Magazine. Hope you enjoy!

Italian Snack Mix

4 cups corn and rice cereal

2 cups oyster crackers

2 cups small pretzel s

1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled

2 egg whites, lightly beaten

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 TBsp dried Italian seasoning

Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl. Combine butter and egg whites in a small bowl and wisk together. Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture and toss to coat. Sprinkle with cheese and seasoning and toss to coat again. Spread mixture on jelly roll pan or baking sheet (may need to divide into 2 batches) and bake at 300 degrees for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool completely and store in air tight container.

  1. it is true. At some point people get too many sweets during the holiday season. Good to have savory options for small gifts!

  2. Oh would have been great for my teacher’s gift too! I gave them a “wrap up the end of the year” survival basket. All the essentials for their gift wrapping needs and refreshments to tie them over while they are wrapping gifts.
