Sea To Shining Sea Themed Baby Shower

I’m excited to share the most recent Operation Shower event I helped with in Norfolk 2 weeks ago. This was my 5th shower with the organization and it just keeps getting better. We were delighted to have some of our other Virginia based party planners come out and volunteer, and boy did we have a blast! I met Ebony of Sparkling Events & Designs and Deanna of 5 to 9 Events for the first time, and was re-acquainted with Sarah of Sheek Shindigs, and Lindi of Love The Day (actually Lindi & I are more like sisters at this point). The theme was “Sea to Shining Sea” and was brought to life with 3 different tabletop centerpiece designs, stunning graphics by Love The Day, and some amazing dessert items. Check out all the details and get inspired to throw your own nautical inspired shower.

Amy’s signature design is to create 3 different but coordinating centerpieces. She did it this time with large flower pots wrapped in nautical map paper and a flag coming up through the center to add height. Next, she grouped bud vases with rustic nautical accessories, and third she topped wooden crates with model sail boats and included rope balls and more flower vases. Small lighthouses and rope embellished frames were placed and highlighted some of Lindi’s paper designs.

Each mother has her own place card – a great personal touch, and napkins are tied with rope and a pacifier. The color scheme couldn’t have been better as everything seemed to pop against the white table cloths and chair covers.

For the lunch buffet we had typical deli food served in commercial containers. We were able to add some style to them by decorating the table with more flowers and accessories and adding a simple back drop with banner. FYI, that is my “traveling” backdrop used below.

The dessert table came to life with the incredible cake from Sugerland bakery – the same bakery that provided the cake for the “Obama” shower in Camp LeJeune. They amaze me with their skill and quality. We also had the sweetest themed cookies from Firefly Confections and flavored popcorn bags from Just Pop In. We filled custom boxes with cashews and displayed gumballs in pipettes and my vintage soda crate (seriously one of my favorite ideas of the day). And Amy created a backdrop here with felt place mats – quite an undertaking for me, Lindi, and Sarah to hang that thing!

At the end of the day 40 moms were showered with thousands of dollars worth of gifts. They also received special hand-made items from volunteers in Texas and Maine (where the fundraisers for the event live) including “lobster” bibs and knitted “cowboy booties”.

And there we are (missing Deanna) after the event: me, Amy, Sarah, Ebony, and Lindi – love these gals!

Much thanks to Stephanie of Lifeography for the photos, who also gave a short testimonial. She has lived the life of a pregnant wife while her husband was deployed and wrote a letter to her not-yet-born baby. As she read the letter to us, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. It was very sweet and touching.
