Easy Frame Chalkboard DIY

Remember this chalkboard sign from the Ice Cream Soda bar I created for Celebrations website? It was such a popular focal point I thought I’d share with you how I made it. It was quite simple to do…

The piece is actually a mirror I had hanging in my daughter’s room.

  • The mirror is held in place on the frame with some simple bendable hooks which I pried open with my hands – no special tool required.
  • I removed the mirror and kept the cardboard backing to be spray painted on one side with chalkboard paint. I let it dry over night.
  • I replaced the cardboard backing and secured with the bendable hooks, and waalaa! A fabulous framed chalkboard with different sections for different uses!

The great thing is that I can always replace the mirror as needed so it’s like having 2 pieces in 1. Check around your local stores or thrift shops for something similar you can do this with. It will add character to any space.
